US$2.56 Billion in Potential Guatemala Exports Could Drive Industrial Demand in DR

This new trade agreement could increase demand for warehouses, distribution centers, industrial facilities and logistics infrastructure if the identified opportunities translate into actual business.
The National Association of Industries and Businesses of Herrera (ANEIH) and the Guatemalan Exporters Association (Agexport) signed a memorandum of understanding to expand business ties and identify new trade opportunities between both countries.
The organizations identified 26 products and an estimated US$2.56 billion in potential Guatemalan exports to the Dominican Republic. The figure represents identified commercial potential, not committed investment or confirmed trade.
ANEIH, known by its Spanish acronym, is a nonprofit, multisectoral organization that represents more than 190 companies in Santo Domingo.
For the Dominican industrial and logistics real-estate market, the development raises a broader question: if trade between the two countries expands, what additional infrastructure would be needed to handle it?
If trade between the two countries grows, it could mean more demand for warehouses, distribution centers, industrial buildings and logistics services, especially near major ports and business hubs.
Things could get even more interesting if Guatemalan companies decide to set up operations in the Dominican Republic. That could create demand for factories, free-zone facilities and regional distribution centers.
ANEIH and Agexport will also organize business meetings and trade missions to help companies from both countries connect and explore new deals.
For the real-estate market, the key question is whether this trade opportunity actually leads to new companies, investments and demand for industrial and logistics space.
